16: On Palestine and the Outbreak of Violence

19 May 2021

The MajlisTT notes the sustained violence being inflicted on our Muslim brothers and sisters, and other sects, in Palestine, by both the Israeli Armed Forces as well as the Armed Settlers. We bemoan the scenes of carnage that flood social media, and we cry alongside our Ummah globally at the funeral processions and general suffering of those who are killed, maimed or displaced in these conflicts.

MajlisTT notes the widespread condemnation of the violence being perpetuated by Israel, from many in the local and international community. Many have chosen to show their support and solidarity for our brothers and sisters in Palestine through their social media profiles – messages highlighting the atrocities, message of hope and solidarity, and other information surrounding the conflict and its latest iteration.

We note the issue is not solely based on religious differences, but is influenced by politics of the region and the stakeholders involved. That this outbreak of violence was provoked by the restrictions imposed at the Damascus Gate, follows on the heels of the Mount Meron incident, and coincides with developments in the Israeli internal political affairs, forces the question of the inhumanity with which people of Palestine are viewed. That 102 women and children to date are among the 227 persons killed reinforce this concern.

We welcome the fact that many Muslims are aware or repeatedly reminded of the hadith in which the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) said:

“The believers in their mutual kindness, compassion and sympathy are just like one body. When one of the limbs suffers, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever”. [Bukhari and Muslim]

We are also reminded of the Islamic injunction to stand against oppression in the Hadith Qudsi:

“O My slaves, indeed I have forbidden oppression for Myself, and I have made it forbidden between you, so do not oppress one another…” [Muslim]

We are heartened by the fact that many demonstrate a firm conviction for justice, as instructed in the Quran:

“O you believe! Stand out firmly for Allāh as just witnesses; and let not the enmity and hatred of others make you avoid justice. Be just, that is nearer to piety. And fear Allāh. Verily, Allāhis Well-Acquainted with what you do.” (Quran 5:8)

We join the call of all our Muslim brothers and sisters, and the wider international community, for Israel to stop the violence and oppression of the people of Palestine, and we stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people in their indigenous liberation struggle against forced dispossession by the Israeli state. We salute the bravery and will-to-survive of Palestinians.

We reject the “two-sides” and “evenhandedness” narrative that ignores and conceals the meaningful differences between Israel, one of the most heavily militarized states in the world against a Palestinian population that has no standing army, no air force or no navy.

We further endorse the BDS movement to boycott /divest / sanction and overall curtail support for Israeli violations of international law, and pressure them to comply with same.

We pray that Almighty Allah grants speedy victory to the oppressed, safeguards His house of Masjid-ul-Aqsa, and restores the land of Palestine to its place as a beacon of peace and faith in His Oneness. We pray that the in the future any further outbreaks do not result in loss of life and welfare, or again contravene our humanity. Almighty Allah tells us in the Holy Quran:

“O mankind! We have created you from a male and female, and made you into nations and tribes that you may know one another. Verily, the most honorable of you with Allāh is that (believer) who is most righteous. Verily, Allāh is All-Knowing, Well-Acquainted (with all things).” (Quran 49:13)

We reiterate the supplication to Almighty Allah,
